Last post...

This class has definitely been rewarding in many ways. First off, I got to learn how to operate a handful of programs, which I know I'll definitely be using in the future. I have already been incorporating projects and skills Ive learned in the class to my other classes. Overall, I believe my strongest projects were Canvas, the Calligram, and my Animation. While my weak projects were the MorphX and Black and white edit. My favorite overall project was probably my calligram or animation- both took awhile to do but in the end i really like them. This class not only helped my other classes, but I know I now have the skills to (finally) take over the social media for our Tampa Volleyball team, which I had been very reluctant to do.

I think part of the reason I did well in the course and was not overwhelmed was because I bought the Adobe student pack so I had all the programs on my laptop. This was a lifesaver because I was able to work on projects at whatever time I wanted and could work in intervals or finish the entire project if I had the time.

Thank you so much Santi for everything you taught us. Even though your class may have been difficult, I learned so much more than I would have if I had a different professor. I already know I'll be emailing you next year, thanking you again.

Posters research

Propaganda from Russia: What I like most about the Russian posters is the fact that they look pop-art like. I also like the use of only basic colors, although this may be because during that time period, those were the only available colors to print.
Out of the Russian propaganda, this was my favorite. This picture, I guess because of the people's faces reminds me of a circus or clowns. I also really like the flower print on the one person's shirt. Out of many of the other Russian pictures, these people looked the happiest and aren't scary.

WW2 posters: what i realized about the WW2 propaganda, is that they are all informational. Many of these posters are covered in text, and are explaining something. Personally, i do not like these posters because it is harder to gain an audiences attention, and many people do not want to stand there and read a poster. Many people will be seeing these posters on the go, and do not have time. Another trend is that many of these posters use the colors red, white, and blue. And if they do not include all 3 colors, they include at least 1.

I liked this poster because out of all of them, it is the most relatable. I think its ironic that men my age would have needed to enlist for the war many years ago.

Japanese vintage posters: i LOVE these posters. The colors and Japanese writing is so pretty. Although I'm nit sure what the posters say, many of the posters people seem happy and generally give off happy vibes.
I like this poster because it is peaceful. I also like how the writing characters are different colors, I'm guessing because they are separate ideas.

Mesh Project

Originally I took a plastic Easter egg as my object. After many tries, I was finally able to create the portion of the egg where the top and bottom connect. Overall, I am happy with how the project came out, and really like using the eyedropper and anchor.

Caligram

My final Caligram is Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast. I thought just the plain white background was boring so I decided to use a gradient, but it kind of makes the words harder to read. This project took a lot of time, but it is one of my favorites.

Business Cards for Amanda Jada

The aspects of Amanda's life that I wanted to focus on were her Teaching Assistant job, her waitressing job, 5k Volunteer, the fact that she's bilingual, and a professional card. Out of all of these, I like the one with Arabic on the front, because it is the most unique. I also like the purple business card, but looking at it now, it may have too much going on.

Caligram

For this caligram I decided to use the poem Die Lorelei by Heinrich Heine. I made two caligrams, so the first is the original german poem, and the second is an english translation.
Out of the two of them I'm not sure which I like better. I wish some of the lines actually connected but the shapes were hard to fully trace with the pen tool without overlapping.

Die Lorelei by Heinrich Heine

Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten,
Daß ich so traurig bin,
Ein Märchen aus uralten Zeiten,
Das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.
Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,
Und ruhig fließt der Rhein;
Der Gipfel des Berges funkelt,
Im Abendsonnenschein.
2. Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet
Dort oben wunderbar,
Ihr gold'nes Geschmeide blitzet,
Sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar,
Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme,
Und singt ein Lied dabei;
Das hat eine wundersame,
Gewalt'ge Melodei.
3. Den Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe,
Ergreift es mit wildem Weh;
Er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,
Er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh'.
Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen
Am Ende Schiffer und Kahn,
Und das hat mit ihrem Singen,
Die Loreley getan.

English Translation:
I know not if there is a reason
Why I am so sad at heart.
A legend of bygone ages
Haunts me and will not depart.

The air is cool under nightfall.
The calm Rhine courses its way.
The peak of the mountain is sparkling
With evening's final ray.

The fairest of maidens is sitting
So marvelous up there,
Her golden jewels are shining,
She's combing her golden hair.

She combs with a comb also golden,
And sings a song as well
Whose melody binds a wondrous
And overpowering spell.

In his little boat, the boatman
Is seized with a savage woe,
He'd rather look up at the mountain
Than down at the rocks below.

I think that the waves will devour
The boatman and boat as one;
And this by her song's sheer power
Fair Lorelei has done.

Homework

Experimenting with shapes, gradient, symbol sprayer   Out of all of the pictures, I like the damask-like one the best. I tried to make a traditional damask print but it was hard to adjust the direction of the shapes. I like the gradient in the rainbow, but I dont think the last landscape picture is good.

Experimenting in Class

These were made while playing around in class. The eyes are my favorite, and so far out of many of the projects, are my favorite. The flowers were also made in class, it was cool learning how to copy whole objects while they have many small parts.

Illustrator: Minnie Mouse

I did not do a good job on this project. I wish I was able to make my layers work together, and was able to clean up my shapes.

Illustrator Landscape

This was our first picture using Illustrator. Since we needed to make a landscape i decided to make a beach scene. What I like most about this project is the palm tree leaves.

FINAL ANIMATION+ MUSIC

Although the music wasn't what i had anticipated, because i planned on using prerecorded classical music, i still liked the outcome.

If i was able to use classical music, i was going to make this my final animation

Animation Project

Stills from the project:

For my animation I decided to show the class about my life. I did this because originally, I was unsure of what to make my animation, and I thought my life would be the most entertaining for me to create.

I stared the animation with my family tree, and then after each member was added to the tree, a picture of them and I was added

Then after showing my high school life and friends in New Jersey, i made the transition to Florida.

This part of the animation was my favorite. This may be because I made it in the beginning, but i love how the plane comes in and the writing fades.

I also really like this part, mostly because when i was younger i always watched "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody". I thought this made sense to add because the girls pictured are my suitemates in Brevard Hall.

this still is taken from the beginning of my work, shown in the animation. I am a student assistant for our womens volleyball team here at Tampa, and believe this is important to show. I love my job, so this still is my co-workers, and then the animation goes into my work there, shots from games, along with winning the national championship in 2014.

Under my likes, i added swimming.

I added art to my animation because I really enjoy looking at, and going to art museums. I added Picasso's Guernica into the background, and then had Picasso's 'Girl Before a Mirror' walk along the background.

Then after 'Girl Before a Mirror' disappeared, I had 'Starry Night' go across the screen and take over.

At the end, I added a still from Looney Tunes, another show I used to watch as a child, and a highly recognizable picture.

Overall, I really liked this project and being able to decide to include whatever i would like. Though some parts are fast in the animation, i am proud of my work.

Review of "From Mattes to Green Screen"

For the time period Méliès was working in, I was surprised he was able to create the effects of removing and adding his head to multiple parts of the screen. What I would like to know is how he came up with the idea to block out certain parts of the film. When the speaker began talking about traveling mattes in the film Sunrise, I began to look around the figures which had their silhouettes outlined, and noticed the cropping was somewhat off around the individuals. Seeing how awkward the space is around the man's head, I know I will need to have precise cropping in my projects. In The Thief of Bagdad, I want to know if the slight color changing in the background was intentional, or just because of the filming technologies used. I do not believe modern day film makers are too reliant on green screens. With the green screen, things unimaginable are possible and these films attract a large audience.

Practice with Animation!

Overall, I dont like this animation, but it was my first try. I'm not sure why the white lines come up on the screen in the beginning...

I really love this animation. I think its really cool, and it involves one of my favorite prints, damask.

MorphX

I really did not like this project. Finding a picture of me alone was hard, because all my pictures are at home/ I am in them with my brothers. Once I found a picture that worked, the file was small, so in MorphX it comes out blurry. Even though I like the program, I did not like the final outcome.
